E-flurrying. It is barely possible to stay on top of stuff. One of the arisings this morning is dealing with the shipping company responsible for delivering my gold-top Fernandes wet in Japan. Correspondence on this has been multiple & ongoing. Yesterday’s e-letter, opened this morning, has this…
(We) will happily pay the repairs to the guitar, however could the case not be repaired? I saw the case when it returned from Japan and whilst I agree it was damp, it had not been damaged beyond use.
I do not want to cause you guys any further anxiety over this issue, so if feel a new case would compensate you for the inconvenience then we will agree to pay that also, but I would ask that you give us the old case. We often get given guitars to ship in soft cases, and we may be able top sell this case or just use it for shipping back and forth from our US offices.
Please let me know.
So this morning I have let him know…
I’ve got a better idea, and this because I prefer straightforward & uncomplicated completion to ongoing discussion.
I will pay for the repairs to both guitar & for a replacement flightcase & (you) need not spend any further time discussing a resolution of this with us.
When we have responsibility for a mistake’s effects on others, we act to swiftly resolve untoward repercussions. We do not cavil & introduce conditions.
For example, in this present instance: Your case is ruined because of us so we’ll buy you another straightaway. And not: Your case is almost ruined because of us & our correspondence has been rattling on for so long that the grief over this is now almost as much as your grief over the ruined case & wet guitar & accessories but if we do buy you a new case we want the old one so let’s have more ongoing correspondence about this & we can also find ways of getting the almost ruined case to us so that we might be able to squeeze some more use out of it because we’re that mean but that’s another conversation as well.
The management-style of this shipper is not one I associate with effective management. Expressed positively, the management-style of this shipper is one I associate with an unreliable firm. The cost of a new case & guitar repairs is a cheap price to pay for knowing this is a firm to avoid.

A drive down to DGM listening to Gert-Jan Blom’s latest Basta release: Gurdjieff’’s Oriental Suite
Many of the pieces I know from Movements’ classes in piano versions – what a transformation! As if black & white opened to a wide spectrum of richly hued colour. A high-information listening experience, one piece after another. This is a revelation.
